I absolutely love the look of beautiful old leather bound books. When our library is done we are going to start adding them to that room......they add such a sense of character, importance and beauty to a room. Love love love all the gorgeous examples (and your pick on design books too)!

Our son was visiting Sally and me this spring and we were sitting, chatting in the living room. He suddenly got up and walked over to one of our bookcases, reached up and pulled out an old leather bound book, looked very closely at it, turned to us and said, "it's too bad they don't make them like this any more. This is beautiful."

Nuff said...

Cheers,
John

Mona-
This is the most beautiful post.
I see a couple of books on my list that I don't have yet that are a must have. The leather books are stunning, as are the rooms that fill.
Nothing more perfect than old leather bound books.
Happy Wednesday.

Is there anything more beautiful than an antique leather book and these rooms are amazing. Our homes are full of books of all kinds and love the comfort and character they add to any space!!

YES to all the above mona!
bobby mcalpine is my favorite designer/design book. but nothing beats the patina of worn leather books.

when we were looking for a new/old house, years ago, one of the criteria's was a built-in bookcase. loved your examples!

You know I'm with you on a love of beautiful books! You couldn't have picked a better list of design books either - those would be my top picks for sure!

Mona,
I love books! Design books probably top my list but leather bound books, especially old ones add so much to a vignette in a room.

Thanks of including our book "The Home Within Us" on your list!

I have the few books you listed and love them and love the look and thought of leather books. I say thought because between my husband and myself we collect and read way to many books so have no room left for leather books even on tables. I guess I'll just keep dreaming about them.

Mona, those old books are an art piece. I just went to a fund raiser in Montecito California. They were selling the old leather books for $2 to $5.00 a book. They were beautiful. i don't think they realized the worth of them.

We do have a common love of books and reading. Every room in my house has bookshelves, books are overflowing and my husband begs to stop buying books or start giving some to the library.I did bring boxes and boxes to the library, try to read on the ipad but am insatiable when it comes to buying books. I really enjoyed reading your post!!
